Cleve Huff - Percussion
Cleve has been playing drums since 1961. He plays multiple styles: Jazz, Funk, Latin (Brazil and Cuban) rhythms, Rock, Fusion, R&B, etc. Cleve has been playing major venues in the Phoenix area with convention support groups and has been a show player since 1981.
As a show player, Cleve has played with such names as Roger Williams, Maureen McGovern, the Lawrence Welk troupe, Bob Hope, George Burns, Jerry Vale, Al Martino, Carol Channing, Sherry Lewis, Sadler and Young, Blackstone the Magician, Eddie Fisher, Shirley Jones, the Diamonds, Leslie Gore, Don Rickles, Rodney Dangerfield, Danny Gans, Perry Como, Dom DeLuise, Frankie Carle and many more. Cleve is a contracted show player, playing venues in the Phoenix area and all around Arizona. Cleve has played with groups such as The Harry James Tribute Band, Guy Lombardo Royal Canadian Band, Les Brown Tribute Band, Mike Vax with Jack Peterson, Barney Kessel, Jimmy Dorsey Tribute Band, Sonny Stitt, Wild Bill Davidson, Art Van Damme, Scott Whitfield, Ginger Berglund, Steve Hufsteder, the Phoenix Pops Orchestra with Doc Severinsen, the Prescott Jazz Summit. More recently, Cleve has played with jazz luminaries Reggie Thomas from the Count Basie Band, Bill Watrous, Gary Anderson, Jeff Colella, Ron Eames, Brad Dutz, Kim Richmond, Jennifer Leitham, Selwyn Reams, Margo Reed, and Dennis Rowland.
Cleve has been a private instructor in the Valley since 1981 and is currently on staff teaching at Music Masters since 1987. Cleve also taught at the Creative Drum Shop owned by Jim Zupancic from 1981 to 1985. Between 1981 and 2011, Cleve was a member of the adjunct faculty for private instruction at Scottsdale Community College.
Cleve is currently performing with the CleveTet with Michael Collins and rotating bass and sax players at the Prescott Jazz Summit and Howlin’ at the Highlands operated by Mike Vax – formerly with the Stan Kenton Band, with performances at the Nash, Sacred Grounds, Valley Bar and other Valley jazz venues. Cleve is drumming Thursday nights at the Pita Jungle Jazz Jam Band which has been running for 16 years at Dobson and Ray Roads in Chandler, Arizona.
Currently Cleve plays with the Superstition Jazz Orchestra Big Band - Milas Yoes’ jazz band program out of Phoenix College – Mike Crotty director as well the Doublers Collective operated by Monica Shriver with accompaniment by ultra-talented multi-instrumentalist wind players and stellar rhythm section musicians performing at the Nash.
In days past, when you heard live music at Nordstrom's in Scottsdale, you were listening to Cleve play with Richard Palalay and Trio 380. This band also featured Felix Sainz and Brent Mendoza.
